FAQs

Can Homeopathy offer a ‘quick fix’?

If you are suffering from acute symptoms, the short answer is yes. Acute symptoms happen suddenly, and are usually over relatively quickly, particularly if you are in good health generally. Homeopathy can be extremely effective as a first aid treatment and having a Homeopathic First Aid Kit in the house will help with a wide range of minor emergencies including:

  • Insect bites
  • Burns
  • Minor injuries – bumps and bruises
  • Nettle Stings
  • Sunstroke
  • Shock
  • Headaches
  • Period Pains
  • Coughs and Colds

It is possible to use these first aid kits very effectively without the help of a trained homeopath, but more problematic acutes, like coughs and colds would be better if treated with the guidance of your homeopath as symptoms tend to change and the picture can become confusing. If you suffer from recurrent chest infections, sore throats, sinusitis or seasonal hay fever, it is possible to have constitutional treatment from your homeopath to improve your levels of susceptibility.

If you would like help for acutes, I run an acute email helpline. I will do my best to reply within 4 hours. If you leave a message we can arrange a phone call and I will charge min £10, max £50. Go to contact

A homeopathic first aid kit can be used for minor ailments and accidents in the home but should not be used as an alternative to treatment in chronic illness or as a substitute for urgent medical treatment.

Remember, in a medical emergency you should always contact your doctor or A&E. Go to NHS helpline details here

  • Eating disorders: this really relates to the above, and whilst I have only had experience with girls, I know that it would help boys too. Because of its tailor-made approach to the individual, homeopathy can be especially helpful
  • Skin problems: Acne, psoriasis, hair loss
  • All Menstrual Problems from delayed onset to irregular or absent periods, PMS, and skin problems relating to hormonal issues

How do I take the remedy?

The action of a homeopathic remedy can be antidoted by strong substances and smells such as peppermint and caffeine.  If you have been given small pillules to take you should allow a minimum of 15 minutes either side of taking the remedy: no strong food or drink (including cleaning your teeth) for 15 minutes before or after taking the remedy. In a first aid emergency you don’t need to do this – it is more important to get the remedy in quickly!

Try not to touch the remedy: Tip a pillule into the lid of the bottle, and then into your mouth. Let the pillule dissolve under your tongue.

Can I contact my homeopath between appointments?

If any unexpected symptoms arise, or you have any questions, particularly at the beginning of treatment, I would urge you to stay in touch, by text or email. I may not be immediately available to answer any concerns or questions, but I will do my best to get back to you within 24 hours.

Will Homeopathy work if I am on other medication?

Many people come to homeopathy to help alleviate symptoms that have developed over a long period of time. It may be that their medication constantly needs changing because it is not effective, or it is causing side effects and they would like to reduce these.

Homeopathy is completely safe to use alongside other treatments; you should not change your prescriptions without consulting your doctor. If you are keen to reduce your medication, for instance for depression or pain relief, it is important that you discuss this with your doctor as this process needs to be handled carefully and responsibly.

It is important that you let your homeopath know what other drugs you are taking as this will affect your symptom picture and will therefore have a bearing on your treatment. Treating painful conditions like arthritis with homeopathy may well result in your needing to take less conventional pain relief which will have a beneficial effect on your liver function and your overall well-being.

Should Homeopathy be used exclusively?

Homeopathy is about the individual and what works best for them. Its unique ability to stimulate the body to heal itself does not make it exclusive. If you are considering homeopathy for a chronic condition the chances are you will have tried many other treatments and may be finding other therapies are helping you already. It works well in conjunction with relaxation and meditation therapies such as yoga, reiki, qi gong, and, if it is necessary to stay on conventional medication, it will not interfere with this.
